Job description:


    Degree in forestry science or engineering, or a related subject such as plant physiology and genetics.
    More than 10 years’ practice in forestry research  with a focus on tree breeding. 
    practice in laboratory work & forestry pest and disease identification and monitoring will be beneficial.
    expertise of current forestry research and equipment.
    Research skills, and skill in analyzing and interpreting research results.
    Practical skills for performing experiments and operating scientific equipment. 
    Proficient in English .  
function & Responsibilities
1) Tree Improvement
    manage and implement of all technical fieldwork for tree improvement programmes for E. pellita, A. manguim, A. crassicarpa, F. moluccana and G. arborea, including design and establishment of provenance/progeny trials to develop base populations for continuing breeding for the tree breeding programs.
    manage field trial assessment programmess and analyze all data obtained from the trials.
    formulate deployment recommendations and optimize genetic potential of seeds and clonal stocks for propagation in production nurseries. 2) Silviculture             
    formulate recommendations to optimize silvicultural regimes as new results are obtained from silviculture research trials. 3) Nursery Management
    manage day to day Segan forest tree production nursery and overall supervision and coordination of other tree plantation nurseries.
    coordinate all seedling/rooted-cutting production for the company’s annual tree plantation establishment program.
    plan and coordinate the logistics of seedling/cutting deliveries from the company’s central nursery to the LPFs (Licensed Planted Forest).
    compile schedules for seed sowing and setting of cuttings, and securing optimal seed supplies.
    maintain nursery management systems in order to comply with the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) – a certification system endorsed by PEFC. 4) Seed Orchards & Seed Centre
    supervise the management and expansion of an A. mangium clonal seed orchard.
    develop cutting mother plants (hedge plants) for use in the production of A. mangium rooted-cuttings to support family forestry.
    Develop an elite seedling seed orchard and various seed production areas (SPAs) from seed source trials to fast track production of improved seed for E pellita, A. crassicarpa, A. mangium and other species.
    source improved seed supplies to supplement company’s own limited seed supply, and then issuing seeds to company nurseries.
    develop and maintain company’s seed register. 5) Pest and Disease (Tree Pathology).
    To get support from diagnostic pathology laboratory in identifying pests and diseases in the existing plantations.
    Develop an integrated pest and disease monitoring programme, including instructional materials and training for plantation management staff in identifying potential pest and disease risks within the plantations. 6) Enumeration
    Manage the company’s enumeration crews in the different LPFs.
    Verify and analyze tree measurement data collected from PSPs and TSPs.  Assist in developing a species specific tree growth models for Samling.
    Coordinate the development of a volume and taper function for E pellita, G. arborea and F. moluccana.
